1. Who we are

SpeakBG ("we", "us", "our") operates the website www.speakbg.com and the SpeakBG application. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: Email address and display name when you create an account (directly or via Google Sign-In).
  • Learning data: Words learned, exercise results, streak history, XP, rank, and game scores.
  • Payment data: Processed securely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and session duration for improving the app.

3. How we use your data

  • To provide and personalize the learning experience (spaced repetition, exercise difficulty).
  • To display your progress on leaderboards (using your chosen display name, not your email).
  • To process payments for premium subscriptions.
  • To send streak reminders and important account notifications (if you opt in).
  • To improve the app based on aggregate usage patterns.

4. Third-party services

  • Supabase: Database and authentication (hosted in EU).
  • Stripe: Payment processing. See Stripe's privacy policy.
  • Anthropic (Claude API): Powers AI conversation practice. Conversation data is not stored by Anthropic beyond the session.
  • ElevenLabs: Pre-generated audio pronunciation files. No user data is shared.
  • Google: OAuth sign-in. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Vercel: Hosting. See Vercel's privacy policy.

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely in Supabase (EU region) with row-level security enabled. Learning progress is also cached locally on your device for offline access. We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission.

6. Your rights

Under GDPR and applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@speakbg.com or use the "Delete Account" option in Settings.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

8. Children

SpeakBG is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app or email.
